limits to number of songs?

Postby XRayCharlie » Mon Jul 06, 2009 11:34 pm

Hello,

I have a registered version of the latest tms 4.xx build on a dns-323. I have been streaming my videos and pictures without issues.

I decided to put my music collection on it so I could access though my ps3.
With smallish music collections it works great but once I go over around 30k songs, it doesn't pick up all the songs.
It even stops the scanning for new videos until I no longer share the music directories and rebuild the db.

Is there some limit to the number of songs or the size of the db? The db seems to grow to around 75 megs and I have a lot of disk space available.

If there is a song limit, is the issue resolved in the 5.x versions? I tried installing the latest 5.x version but I couldn't get it to work correctly.

Regards.

Hi

I seem to remember (from ages ago) that there was a 300 item limit per folder. I cannot remember if this was an early Twonky 4 limit, or maybe I'm even thinking of something else altogether!

I structured my music into folders called ABC, DEF, GHI etc and put stuff like Aswad, B52s and Cream in the ABC folder etc, etc. Under each artist folder, I then have all the albums (one per folder).

Someone else will maybe chip in and confirm if this limit is true (sorry, I just cannot remember if this was a Twonky issue or something completely different), but if you have a massive collection of folders within a single folder, or maybe even masses of music files in one big folder, maybe this is what's causing the problem. If so, it might be as simple as a bit of house keeping and a database rebuild to sort it all out.

As for TMS5, I'd think it'll be a significant step forward but advise maybe holding on for a week or two; 5.0.XX is not really suited to non technical NAS users (requires Telnet access and some tweaking to make it work) and 5.1 is still really under development. Hopefully the new version of 5.1 will address all the outstanding issues.

Thanks for the help.

I split up the directories a bit more so there is no more than 300 songs in each and it now scans my whole collection.
The only issue I an seeing now is that the Used Memory is getting really close to the Max memory (15000).

Is there a way to bump this up so the server has more memory available to it?

Regards.
